What is Vivos?
Vivos is a non-surgical treatment option for adults suffering from restricted airways, small, narrow jaws, crowded teeth, obstructive sleep apnea and temporomandibular joint pain.
The Vivos appliance is used to stimulate your own stem cells to grow the upper jaw and increase the size of the airway behind the soft palate and tongue. The Vivos appliance is worn 14-16 hours a day for 12 to 18 months during the active treatment phase. We have seen patients with chronic headache, joint pain and poor sleep quality have complete resolution of their complaints. The DNA appliance was recently awarded FDA approval as treatment for obstructive sleep apnea solely for its facial development abilities.
Obstructive sleep apnea is often caused or exacerbated by poor jaw development, and the Vivos System works to treat the source of the condition as well as the condition itself. By providing patients with a custom-fit oral device (worn during the day and night), Vivos slowly expands the palate to create more room in the mouth. Additionally, the device helps train the lower jaw to remain in an optimal position during sleep.
Restructuring and repositioning the jaw to correct physical abnormalities aims to relax the tissues in the mouth and throat so that they no longer obstruct the airway.
Which Conditions Can Vivos Treat?
The Vivos System is primarily designed to treat obstructive sleep apnea without the need for surgery or the permanent use of a CPAP machine.
However, this treatment option can also be beneficial in treating secondary issues like chronic headaches, facial pain and tension as well as snoring or temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ).

What to Expect with Your Vivos Treatment
Vivos says the clinical data submitted to the FDA as part of the clearance process for the DNA included pre- and post-treatment Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI) scores obtained with no appliance in the mouth, demonstrating that:
- 28% of patients had their OSA resolved
- 63% of patients improved by one AHI classification (i.e., severe to moderate, moderate to mild, or mild to no OSA)
- 86% of patients improved their airway size
- 97% of patients increased the width of their palate which allows the tongue to rest in proper position, thus avoiding a potential airway obstruction
