What are Lumineers?
Somewhat similar to veneers, lumineers are thin, porcelain shells that fit over the surface of a patient’s teeth. Each piece is bonded to an individual tooth, which provides natural-looking results.
They’re a great option for individuals who have stained, chipped, worn, or cracked teeth, and because the process of having lumineers installed is painless and non-invasive, many patients find this treatment method preferable to crowns or implants.
Because lumineers perfectly fit a patient’s natural teeth, they can be used to
- Change the size and shape of teeth so that they appear more symmetrical
- Make teeth appear whiter, removing stains and yellowing
- Even out the spaces between teeth
What’s the Difference Between Lumineers and Veneers?
From the outside, veneers and lumineers satisfy the same purposes and tend to look the same in a patient’s mouth.
However, when veneers are installed, they require a small amount of the patient’s enamel to be scraped away in order for the veneers to fit naturally.
Lumineers often do not require as much or any of the patient’s enamel to be removed, meaning that the overall integrity of the patient’s teeth remain as intact as possible. This means that the teeth receiving lumineers do not have to undergo permanent alteration for the lumineers to fit.
This difference provides a safer, more comfortable experience with the same great results.
The Procedure
The process of having lumineers installed is relatively simple. If you receive lumineers at Scottsdale Family Smiles, Dr. Fattah will take impressions of your teeth, along with measurements of your mouth. From there, lumineers are custom constructed to fit your mouth perfectly.
The lumineers created will be compared with your tooth shade, as well as adjusted in your mouth to ensure a precise, natural-looking fit before they’re bonded to your teeth.
The entire procedure is completed in only a couple of visits, and once the lumineers are installed, you can treat them just as you would your natural teeth.
If you reside in the Scottsdale area and you’d like to restore the appearance of your teeth, having lumineers installed at Scottsdale Family Smiles may be the right option for you. Give our office a call at (480) 607-6937 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Fattah today.
