What Are Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, porcelain or ceramic shells that cover the front of a patient’s teeth. The shade, shape, and size of veneers closely match an individual’s healthy teeth so that they are virtually indistinguishable from a completely natural smile.
Veneers can be used to eliminate gaps in teeth, make teeth appear to be a uniform length, or cover staining. They create a natural-looking, attractive smile for patients who are dealing with a wide variety of dental issues.
The Process
During an initial visit, Dr. Fattah will take an impression of a patient’s teeth so that the veneers can be custom-made to fit the individual’s mouth.
Once the veneers are created, the dentist removes a small portion of enamel from the surface of the teeth that will be receiving the veneer.
The veneer is attached to the patient’s teeth, then adjusted until the fit is perfect. Once the patient and dentist have decided on a position, the veneers are permanently bonded to the patient’s teeth.
Once the procedure is over, patients may notice that their teeth are somewhat sore, which is normal. During this time, it’s acceptable to take over-the-counter pain medication to reduce the discomfort of adjusting.
It’s advisable to avoid eating extremely hard or tough food for the first few days in order to keep pain to a minimum.
