Teeth Whitening
Scottsdale Family Smiles provides teeth whitening services for patients in and around the Scottsdale, AZ area. We respect the pride that individuals put into their appearances and having bright, white teeth is another great way to look your best. The procedure is simple, non-invasive, and painless.
Why Whiten My Teeth?
Age and natural wear play a role in the gradual staining of teeth. They can become dull and yellow due to coffee, tea, or wine consumption, as well as smoking and certain medications. Though it can help reduce yellowing, brushing frequently doesn’t eliminate the process of tooth staining entirely.
Having a whitening procedure done during an in-office visit can brighten a patient’s teeth up to 8 shades, which is significantly more than the results of store-bought whitening kits (which usually only whiten the teeth two shades).
Scottsdale Teeth Whitening
Scottsdale Family Smiles offers both in-office whitening and whitening trays that patients can use at home. An in-office whitening session is usually completed along with other services and the results produced are almost immediate.
On the other hand, at-home bleaching kits can take several weeks before the full effect of tooth whitening is observable. This method is a benefit for individuals who want to carefully control how white their teeth appear, and how gradual the whitening process is.
No matter which option a patient chooses, tooth whitening services are initiated by taking impressions of the patient’s teeth. The impressions are used to create whitening trays that perfectly fit the patient’s mouth. This way, the whitening solution will stay in place instead of leaking out.
During in-office sessions, the tray needs to be worn for a single duration, and at-home treatments need to be used for several hours a night until the desired effect is reached.
How It Works
Teeth whitening solution contains hydrogen peroxide, which penetrates tooth enamel as it starts the oxidation process. During oxidation, the molecules in the enamel are transformed to where they reflect less light than they did before, which makes them appear to be colorless. This colorlessness of molecules is what whitens the teeth.
Depending on the severity of the yellowing your teeth have undergone, in-office whitening may be necessary in order to fully get rid of long-term staining. If you’re currently struggling with discolored teeth and you’re curious about professional whitening, we welcome you to give us a call at Scottsdale Family Smiles. Dr. Fattah will explain your options to you and help you make the appropriate choice to meet your teeth whitening needs.
Teeth Whitening Procedure
The procedure itself should not cause any discomfort and is relatively easy to complete. Before getting started, we simply recommend that patients schedule a dental exam with our Scottsdale dental office. We will then examine your teeth and gums to ensure that they are healthy enough for whitening. This way if any cavities or infections exist they can be treated first.
